Octopuses Garden

Last Saturday night I had an Octopuses Garden themed party to celebrate my birthday the following day (I turned 23 on the 23rd!) Sadly a large segment of the night was undocumented due to a combination of laziness and drinking a little too much (it is probably a good thing there is very little photographic evidence of the night). Anyway as you can see I went over board with the glitter and confetti in an attempt to transform my living room into an underwater paradise. The party was suposed to take part in my yard but sadly the weather was a little windy, wet and wild so we relocated to the safety of my flat. I dressed as a weird amalgamation of a jellyfish and a deep sea fish. I wore a silver lame dress, a jacket made by my mumma and a collar of confetti made by me! Top marks to my darling Edward for being one of the few people to dress up, making a jellyfish costume (what a winner!)

Kew Gardens

Having handed my thesis in April I have been making use of my newly acquired freedom by going on all the days out I never had time to do whilst writing! In May I visited Kew Gardens with my friend Boe. It was the most beautiful weather, the temperature was just perfect and it started drizzling just as we were leaving (horray!!) I hadn't visited Kew since I was 8 years old so it was wonderful to go back and find it just the same as it was in my memory. My favourite places at Kew are the Princess of Wales Conservatory which houses all the cacti and carnivorous plants and the Marianne North gallery which houses North's vast ouvre of botanical drawings. People often miss out the North gallery as its a little hidden away (left of the pagoda) but it really is a beautifully arranged space and makes a lovely rest bite from the warmth of the conservatories!

I have lots to catch up on; so many photos to post, so expect more very soon!

Self Portrait in a crochet dress

Frida inspiration returns although this time a little lighter and brighter in celebration of the glimpse of sun peaking through. The crochet dress was a recent find in one of my favourite charity shops and the shirt is Hungarian (I think originally belonged to my aunty).   The pom poms are actually for my birthday party next week but I thought they looked lovely with the dress. Anyway I am off to paint and then make minestrone for supper (yummee!)
